Addressing the Global Burden of
Atopic Dermatitis:

Navigating Evolving Best Practices for Diagnosis and Treatment

This Learning Center is a freely accessible educational platform for dermatologists, pediatric dermatologists, allergists, pediatric allergists, specialty physician assistants/nurse practitioners, internal medicine/primary care clinicians, family medicine providers, pediatricians, and other clinicians who may be involved in the identification and management of patients with AD. Our goal is to ensure that you – the practicing clinician – have access to the most accurate, up-to-date information for the treatment of these patients.

We encourage you to share this educational resource with your colleagues and your healthcare team.

Courses

Latest Understanding of the Immunological Processes That Contribute to the Burden of Atopic Dermatitis

Credit Available: 0.25 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™

In activity 1, Thomas Bieber, MD, PhD, Prof. h.c., will explore the complex factors underlying AD, including genetic predisposition, environmental triggers, impaired skin barrier function, and immune dysregulation. Special emphasis will be placed on the latest understanding of the immunological pathways implicated in the disease and how these pathways have contributed to the development of novel therapies.

Diagnosing and Grading Atopic Dermatitis Severity in Pediatric and Adult Patients

Credit Available: 0.5 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™

In activity 2, join expert Anthony J. Mancini, MD, FAAD, FAAP, as he delves into the complexities of diagnosing and grading the severity of AD in both pediatric and adult patients. Gain valuable insights and practical strategies to skillfully navigate the differential diagnosis of AD, accounting for age-related variations and region-specific confounders that can impact accurate diagnosis. Through clinical case vignettes, you’ll have the chance to put your knowledge into practice, honing your skills in a real-world context.

Navigating Treatment Decision-making in Adults With Atopic Dermatitis

Credit Available: 0.75 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™

In Activity 3, join Thomas Bieber, MD, PhD, Prof. h.c., for an informative session as he dives into the latest treatment options for adult patients with AD, with a particular focus on biologic monoclonal antibodies and oral JAK inhibitors for moderate-to-severe disease. Gain a comprehensive understanding of the latest clinical trial and real-world efficacy and safety evidence on these therapies, including region-specific regulatory approvals and clinical practice recommendations. Elevate your clinical decision-making skills and confidently tailor treatment plans to your patients’ unique needs with the guidance of real-world clinical case vignettes.

Treatment of Atopic Dermatitis in Pediatric Patients: Considerations From Infancy Through Adolescence

Credit Available: 0.75 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™

In activity 4, join pediatric dermatology expert, Anthony J. Mancini, MD, FAAD, FAAP, for an insightful and informative session on the latest management principles for AD in pediatric patients. Gain an in-depth knowledge of cutting-edge biologic options that offer the potential to improve clinical management for your younger patients with moderate-to-severe AD, from infancy to adolescence. Clinical case vignettes will help you refine your skills in tailoring treatments to address individual patient’s needs.

Considerations for Infectious Complications in Patients With Atopic Dermatitis

Credit Available: 0.50 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™

In activity 5, join expert Diamant Thaçi, MD, in this dynamic and informative session that delves into the complex interplay between AD pathophysiology, cutting-edge therapeutics for moderate-to-severe AD, and the risk of infectious complications. Gain an in-depth understanding of the latest clinical trial and real-world data on infection risk with newer biologic therapies and oral JAK inhibitors. This activity will also provide practical recommendations and region-specific vaccination guidelines to safeguard against infectious complications associated with these newer therapies. Through clinical case vignettes of both pediatric and adult patients, you will have the opportunity to apply these latest recommendations to realistic and complex scenarios.

Diagnosing and Managing Atopic Dermatitis in Individuals With Skin of Color

Credit Available: 1.25 AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™

In activity 6, an expert panel comprised of Susan C. Taylor, MD, Prince Adotama, MD, FAAD, and moderated by Jonathan Silverberg, MD, PhD, MPH, will delve into the challenges associated with diagnosing and managing atopic dermatitis (AD) in individuals with skin of color (SoC). Through engaging case-based discussions with visual aids, they will explore the distinctive clinical presentations, differential diagnoses, and assessment of AD severity in SoC populations compared with White populations. The panel will also address practical considerations for treating moderate-to-severe AD in patients with SoC, including the latest data on systemic therapies across different races and ethnicities. The session will emphasize the importance of shared decision-making, culturally competent care, and tailoring treatment plans to accommodate the unique presentations observed in SoC. Additionally, the panel will focus on discussing strategies aimed at reducing disparities in AD research and practice for patients with SoC.
